The excavation seasons extend for four work weeks of 5 days each. For exact dates and accommodation options please see our
Application Form.
Fees include participation in the excavation, accommodations, meals, field trips and lectures.
Minimum participation is one work week (discounts and academic credits are available).

The Work Day |
The work day begins with coffee and cake in the hotel lobby at 4:30am.
From there volunteers will walk to the site along the promenade of the Sea of Galilee.
The excavation begins at 5:00am and concludes at 1:00pm (please see schedule below).
Various tasks are carried out during the work day, such as:
- Excavating - with small or large tools depending on the work which is being carried out.
- Filling and emptying wheelbarrows according to need.
- Sifting of soil which is removed from the excavation squares
, in order to locate coins and other small finds.
- Cleaning for a better resolution of the architecture and before photography.
- Pottery Washing
If you have a physical condition, which prohibits you from participating in a specific task, the area supervisor should be
notified accordingly.
During the day, you will be provided with breakfast and a fruit break.
Volunteers will be expected to help with the set up and clean up for breakfast.
At the end of the work day all tools, pottery and finds must be stored in the storage container,
after which, volunteers will return to the hotel for lunch, (all the meals are kosher, vegetarian options are available).
After lunch, volunteers will have free time in accordance with the afternoon activities - lectures, pottery washing and field
trips to nearby sites (a detailed schedule will be provided prior to the beginning of the season).
Dinner will be served at the Aviv Hotel at 8:00pm.
An early bedtime and a good night's sleep are recommended so that you are prepared for the work in the field.
Volunteers will receive a certificate for their participation.

Accommodations |
It is highly recommended and preferable that you stay at the Aviv Hotel with the rest of the volunteers and the
archaeological staff. Lectures and announcements take place at the hotel; questions may be more easily answered
and problems solved, as hotel and excavation staffs are right at hand. Feeling a part of the group is also
reinforced by staying together. The Aviv Hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the site, along the beautiful
promenade of the Sea of Galilee. You will be close to all the tourist attractions in Tiberias: the Sea of
Galilee, Tiberias Hot Springs, and the Promenade with its various restaurants and pubs.
You will be in a room with air-conditioning, TV a private bathroom and a balcony.
Lunch and dinner will be served in the hotel dining room. The hotel provides free wireless internet access.
The rooms are reserved from Sunday evening until Friday morning. This means that you'll have a room on
Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Check out is on Friday morning before the
beginning of the work day. Rooms will be set aside for the volunteers to clean up and shower before departing
the hotel for the weekend. Meals start with Sunday evening dinner, and end with Friday morning breakfast. Those wishing to
stay in the hotel for the weekend will receive a 25% discount off of the weekend rates. Aviv Hotel contact
